People have used crystals and gemstones since ancient times for their healing properties, ritualistic uses, and metaphysical powers. Just the appearance of many crystals can fill one with an undeniable sense of mysticism and awe, and their spiritual and physical effects can often be felt with a single touch. With the current toxic and profit-driven state of the contemporary medical establishment, its’s no surprise that people have been searching out and finding alternative health treatments that have been successfully used for thousands of years.
Crystals and Life Energy
The belief that crystals and gemstones can be used as tools to magnify, enhance, and focus energies which can be used to heal the body has been held since ancient times. The color, tone, and type of the crystal used depends on the areas of the body one is attempting to heal.
The “prana” from Indian culture and the “chi” from Chinese medicine are both names for the “life force” which circulates through our bodies. The chakras are the energy vortexes located where the prana exists. In Chinese medicine, the chi flows along meridians and circulates the body. Whether you’re talking about the prana or the chi, crystals and stones are generally used to either enhance or to unblock these vital energies.
Crystals and the Chakras
Originally, there were a multitude of defined chakra points. However, over time, it has been reduced to seven, which are the most commonly used. These seven are the most fundamental ways to interact with the bodies energies. Some of the crystals and stones which interact with each of the chakras include:
- The root chakra which is located in the tailbone utilizes garnet, bloodstone, rubies and onyx to stimulate energy.
- The sacral chakra is located below the navel and it vibrates with carnelian, moonstone and hematite.
- The solar plexus chakra located in the center of the chest uses citrine, amber and topaz.
- If you want to focus on the heart, use rose quartz or fluorite.
- Aquamarine and turquoise are the primary healing stones associated with the throat chakra.
- The third-eye chakra uses amethyst, sapphire or turquoise.
- The crown chakra, on your head, utilizes amethyst and clear quartz.
Using Crystals for Healing
Crystals are most often used in conjunction with the chakras to facilitate physical or emotional healing, or for spiritual and metaphysical insight and discovery. Sometimes, the person who is being healed lies down as the healer places appropriate crystals on various chakras. However, most of the time, crystal healing takes place outside of any formal healing session. Many people use crystals for self-healing by applying crystals to their chakras, holding them, or placing them in a useful location.
Crystals associated with particular chakras and parts of the body are often carried by people who are seeking emotional or physical healing of the body part connected with that chakra For example, carrying a piece of rose quartz for healing heartbreak or for promoting heart health.
Does Crystal Healing Work?
While there has been some research performed regarding crystal energy healing, the majority of the current scientific community and conventional medicine establishment claims that energy healing is due to the placebo effect. While no one has scientifically proven the effectiveness of crystals and gemstones for healing, more and more people are finding them to be an effective alternative treatment for healing and well-being, physically, emotionally, and spiritually.
